For the past couple of days, Glenn has started to used a new term to refer to those who would murder in the name of Islam “Psychotic Islam”. What made him decide to use the new, much harsher term to describe the extremists? He explained on radio today.
GLENN: Welcome to Hour 2 of our Islamic radicalism or Psychotic Islam special on radio. We all know that the Islamic caliphate is real now and that there are psychopaths in the Middle East that are doing everything they can to make the Islamic caliphate a global reality. We are dealing with Islamic terrorists, plain and simple. Just look at their name. Islamic state. The Muslim Brotherhood; but from Day 1, this administration has refused to identify our enemies by name. It's amazing, it's like watching Cirque du Soleil, the trapeze artist that the president becomes to do everything he can to avoid using any kind of phrasing that would identify these radical psychotic killers for what they are, psychotic Muslims.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I don't quibble with labels. I think we all recognize that this is a particular problem that has roots in Muslim communities.
GLENN: Okay, our president has no trouble going after Christianity. But Islam? Not a chance.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the crusades and inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow, all too often was justified in the name of Christ.
GLENN: A hard time getting through this special, man. Comparing the events of today with the events of 1,000 years ago. How does that make sense to any thinking human being? And when the NPR reporter noticed the way the administration avoids using the phrase radical Islam, this is how it sounds.
VOICE: The leader of France, your ally in this effort has put a name on this ideology, which he calls radical Islam. You have bent over backwards to not ever say that. There must be a reason.
VOICE: I think the reason is two-fold: One is I certainly wouldn't want to be in a position where I'm repeating the justification that they have cited that I think is completely ill-legit, that they have invoked Islam to try to justify their attacks.
VOICE: Calling it radical Islam, you feel, would be playing into their hands?
VOICE: Well, I think what I'm trying to do is describe to you what happened and what they did.
GLENN: Again, Cirque du Soleil. Watch him again. The expert trapeze.
VOICE: The allies have described the ideology that you call a warped view of Islam -- by calling it radical Islam. They are not saying we are at war in Islam. They agree with you totally and every word you just said. But they are calling the ideology, the warped view these people adhere to by a name, and it seems that the White House has gone to great lengths to avoid ever calling it anything other than, you know, warped view. I'm wondering is there a reason for that.
VOICE: I'm going my best to try to explain that to you. It's violence. Act of the terrorism.
VOICE: Almost --
VOICE: I'm not going to criticize anyone to use that label. What we are trying to do is be as specific and as accurate as possible in describing what exactly occurs?
GLENN: So the president refuses to call radical Islam, radical Islam. And so does his administration. I believe radical Islam no longer goes far enough. I believe we, as a nation and a world, should unite and begin using the phrase psychotic Islam. There's surely a common thread in these crazy attacks.
