Dr. Ethan Haim was an anonymous whistleblower. An unexpected visit from armed agents of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) brought him into the light.
In March of 2022, Texas Children’s Hospital announced they would cease performing transgender medical procedures on children, an apparent victory for those, like Glenn, who are fighting to protect children from ideologically charged and experimental transgender treatment. A year later, Chris Rufo, a frequent guest on the Glenn Beck Program, exposed how Texas Children's Hospital had not only lied about ceasing its pediatric sex change program—they had expanded it. Within 24 hours of the story's publication, the laws in Texas were changed to shut down the Houston-based children's hospital—the largest in the country—for good.
Rufo's groundbreaking story was based on what was, at the time, the testimony from an anonymous whistleblower. The whistleblower, Dr. Ethan Haim, joined Glenn on the Glenn Beck Program on June 17 to explain why he has since been thrust into the public eye.
The HHS came knocking
Only several weeks following the publication of Rufo's story, Dr. Haim and his wife were awoken by several HHS agents knocking at their door. Despite their best efforts to convince Dr. Haim that their visit was "informal"—even though they came armed and in protective gear—Dr. Haim and his wife insisted on the presence of an attorney. Before they left, the HHS agents gave Dr. Haim a letter disclosing that he was the target of a Department of Justice criminal investigation on four different counts, which, at the time, were kept under wraps.
Dr. Haim spoke with Glenn just hours before his first court hearing. During the hearing, it was disclosed that Dr. Haim was being charged with four counts of violating the patient-privacy provisions of HIPAA, facing up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
As Glenn said, "He didn't break any laws." Ed Whelen for the National Review assessed:
If a whistleblower did what Dr. Haim is alleged to have done to expose, say, that a hospital had committed racial discrimination or Medicaid fraud, it is unfathomable that DOJ would threaten the whistleblower with a life-destroying criminal prosecution.
It is clear: this is a politically-charged attack. The reason Dr. Haim is being charged seems to be simply because he dared to stand up against the Biden administration's crusade to push the transgender ideology on our political institutions—and defend the children who will pay the ultimate price for this crusade.
The DOJ has made it clear that Dr. Haim would be let off the hook if they complied and stayed silent. After threatening both him and his wife with felony charges, the leading DOJ prosecutor indicated that the felony charges would go away if they "fell in line." But, as Dr. Haim told Glenn, "We had a decision to make. Do we try to fight back, or do we submit to the ideology and try to make it all go away?"
They chose the path of courage: to fight back.
Dr. Haim told Glenn that his wife is currently pregnant with their first child. He asked, "What kind of world would we be delivering [our child] into if there aren't men and women who are willing to sacrifice to deliver them to a better future?"
He continued:
You raise [children] to have virtues to have a good and fulfilling life, but what does that mean if the parents aren't willing to sacrifice to make a world where those virtues are valuable? Right now, this government is criminalizing those virtues. The justice system is protecting criminals and going after the innocent. The medical system is creating sickness and going after the healthy [...] Every institution is doing the opposite of what it's meant to do, and people like us have to do something about it, even if that means sacrificing.
And they have sacrificed—everything. Their legal fight has consumed all of their retirement and personal savings, and there's a long legal road ahead, which means an ongoing financial cost.
But you stepped up to the plate.
Glenn asked his audience to consider giving to Dr. Haim's "Give Send Go" fund, 100 percent of which goes to the Haim's legal defense. Since then, you, Glenn's audience, have raised over $100,000 for Dr. Haim's fight against the transgender ideology and the corrupt Department of Justice.
This is how real change happens. We are all called to rise to the occasion when it comes to defending what is right, whether we are the person in the spotlight or rallying around those who are. Dr. Haim and his wife weren't looking to step into the spotlight, but they had the courage to do so when the occasion arose. And YOU have rallied around them to make it possible for their fight to continue.
As Dr. Haim told Glenn, "Once you tell this story, the corruption becomes self-evident." That's why you have to bring it into the light. One day, when "that knock comes to your door," perhaps you will find the courage to rise to the occasion too knowing that there are people who will rally around you to defend what is right.
