A bullet grazed Donald Trump's face, barely missing his head, during an alleged assassination attempt at his Pennsylvania rally Saturday. Footage showed Secret Service rushing the former president off stage with his bloodied face, fist-in air to his supporters, while the alleged shooters were apprehended and dragged out of the rally.
Here's what we know about the developing story so far:
The shooter was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks
Thomas Matthew Crooks was a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA, about an hour south from where the rally took place. There is not a lot of public information available regarding Crooks. He graduated high school in 2020 and was one of twelve students at his school to receive a $500 "star award" from the National Math and Science Initiative. He has no criminal record.
Though a registered Republican, records show that Crooks made a $15 donation to Progressive Turnout Project, a Chicago-based PAC that supports Democrat candidates for public office. On their website, they claim to advocate for "key Democratic constituencies: young people, minorities and low-income people."
Cooks was perched with an AR-15 on a roof 130-ft away from the rally stage
Cooks set up his AR-15 on the roof of a building outside of the complex where the rally was held. It appears Secret Service overlooked this vulnerability. Secret Service snipers perched on top of a building next to the rally stage shot Cooks immediately after the shooting began. He died immediately.
50-year-old father and firefighter, Corey Comperatore, was shot and killed at the rally.
The bullet that missed Trump fatally wounded Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old father and former fire chief for Buffalo Township, in Pennsylvania. According to family and friends, he was a beloved father, husband, member of the community, and never missed Church.
Comperatore was attending the Trump rally with his wife and daughter. According to Allyson Comperatore, believed to be Corey's daughter, Comperatore threw his wife and daughter to the ground and shielded them with his body. Initial reports said that there was a victim who was shot in the head, and it is now believed that was Comperatore.
His daughter Allyson posted the following tribute on Facebook:
Yesterday time stopped. And when it started again, my family and I started living a real-life nightmare. He was the best dad a girl could ask for. The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a bullet for us.
Two other rally attenders were wounded.
Two other rally attendees were critically wounded in the shooting. One is 57-year-old David Dutch, a Marine veteran from New Kensington, Pa. He was hit twice by Michael Cooks. According to MCL District 8 Vice Commandant Matt Popovich, Dutch underwent two surgeries and "is currently in an induced coma.”
The other victim is James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, Pa. Both Dutch and Copenhaver are currently still in critical but stable condition.
Glenn blames the liberal media, not the American people: "What do you THINK was going to happen?"
Glenn, alongside other conservative leaders, has warned the Leftist that their constant demonizing of Donald Trump would incite an assassination attempt. Those warnings were apparently proven true today. Hear Glenn's full reaction in the X thread above.
