Trump is not backing down to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and establishment Republicans.
The New York Times reported the president is on such bad terms with McConnell that the two haven’t spoken in weeks. This is particularly troubling as urgent deadlines for Republicans loom once Congress returns from recess in September.
McConnell spoke in private about the matter saying he doesn’t believe the president’s administration can be salvaged, although we’re only eight months in.
A call reportedly happened on August 9 between Trump and McConnell and was subsequently leaked. Initiated by Trump, the call consisted of Trump bashing McConnell for failing to pass the Republican health care bill and for not doing enough to protect the president during the Russian probe. The conversation became hostile and essentially ended in a screaming match between the two after weeks of private bad mouthing.
Today on Think Thank the panel discussed how establishment Republicans’ political feud with Trump is bad for Americans and puts the GOP’s agenda at risk.
