When no one RSVP'd for Daniel Nicastro's 8th birthday party, his parents reached out to the police --- Daniel's superheroes.
"So Daniel, an 8-year-old kid, his parents say, 'This happens all the time at his birthday party.' He has autism, and nobody calls. He invites everybody, and nobody comes," Glenn said on radio Thursday.
His parents decided they couldn't let Daniel experience another birthday crying, with no friends showing up. So his mom and dad went to the North Port, Florida police department and handed out invitations.

"The guys were standing there, you know, at the desk, and they were like, 'Okay. Well, no promises that we can come to your son's eighth birthday party. But, you know, we'll see what we can do,'" Daniel's father told the local NBC affiliate.
When the time came for the birthday party, nobody was showing up.
"All of a sudden, 'Woop, Woop,' and Daniel runs to the window, and he sees a whole line of police cars coming down the street," the father continued. "And they all pull into his driveway. And they all celebrate his birthday party with him."
Glenn related by sharing a personal story about his daughter when she was in second grade.
"One of the most heartbreaking times I have ever had was --- it was the first time I ever heard my daughter say, 'It's okay. It's okay.' You know Mary, she's like the most positive person in the world," Glenn said. "Now, she says that all the time now, but the first time I heard her say that --- one of her friends was having a birthday party, and she said, 'Everybody got an invitation, but me.' And we were just devastated and didn't know what to say, but she immediately followed with, 'It's okay. It's okay. She's going to have a great birthday.'"
What happened next? A 40-minute ugly cry.
"Our hearts were broken so hard. We went upstairs into our bedroom, and we both cried for like 40 minutes because she was so sweet and so positive and wanted to have everybody else have a good time at this party," Glenn said.
Mary has experienced many happy birthdays since that time --- just like Daniel did on his 8th birthday.
Taking care of our own and being there for people is what it's all about. Even for the tough police officers in North Point, Florida. It's no surprise, really, because that is who we are.
