Once again the pointdexters at PolitiFact have protected our audience from our ignorance and misinformation. They’ve just fact checked one of Glenn’s late night Facebook posts, and decided to pick apart a few pieces and ignore the larger context and message of the post.
Here’s our response:
1) Yes, we meant Hezbollah not Hamas. We have corrected that on Facebook and the website.
2) We’re responding to this story from ‘The Times of Israel’ headlined “US intel report scrapped Iran from list of terror threats”. Summarizing that as “taking Iran off the terror list” on a Facebook post doesn’t seem criminal. In fact, Fox News, Townhall.com, and Allen West all discussed this story with similar summaries.
3) While there are some critical words about Iran, they are taken out of the list of terror threats as we stated, and Hezbollah is completely removed from the entire report.
Thankfully, they didn’t check for grammatical errors.
Politifact's point seems to be that if you incorrectly assume that Glenn was talking about a different terror list than the one he was talking about, then Glenn would have been wrong. However ...he wasn't...so he wasn't.
Now, Politifact failed to deal with the larger point of Glenn’s Facebook post, which is that this administration has routinely betrayed our closest ally in the Middle East: Israel.
While Politifact focused on ‘The Times of Israel’ story, Glenn’s post was focused on this one from ForeignPolicy.com, ‘EXCLUSIVE: From Tel Aviv to Turtle Bay’, which outlines how the Obama administration had hope Netanyahu would lose his re-election and in light of his victory plans to use the United Nations to force a two-state solution.
“When it comes to Israel and the Jewish people, this administration does not speak for me! When it comes to a deal with the homicidal maniacs that oppress the Iranian people oppress women and stone homosexuals I want the world to know that as for me and my family - We reject those who say ‘peace, peace’- when there is no peace,” Glenn wrote on Facebook.
“My family and I stand with the Muslims that ISIS kill because they are not ‘Muslim enough’, we stand with the Jew, the Christian and the atheist who will not accept a second class citizenship in exchange for life,” he continued.
“All men are created equal and endowed by their creator with the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” Glenn wrote.
Yes, a mistake was made. Yes, we corrected it shortly after it was brought to our attention – and are doing so again now. But we will not ignore nor will we apologize for criticizing this administration’s neglect of our American values and principles in order to further their own political interests in the Middle East.
