Glenn is not the only member of TheBlaze team who is looking to highlight up-and-coming talent in the conservative movement. Doc Thompson, host of The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson on TheBlaze Radio Network, and his producer Skip LaCombe have been scouring the country looking for key races that could really have an impact this November. Doc and Skip introduced Glenn to strong candidates like Matt Bevin in Kentucky and Greg Bannon in North Carolina, and Doc joined Glenn on radio this morning to discuss the importance of the 2014 midterms.
“Doc is one of my favorite employees along with Skip because these guys don't just sit around and wait for us to say, ‘Hey, here's what we're gonna do.’ They just take it on,” Glenn said. “One day, I find out that these guys have taken their own car and their own money and everything else, and they are like, We're going to go across the country. We're going to meet all these candidates.’ And they did.”
Last year, Doc and Skip traveled to a total of 20 states and met countless people along the way. What is so exciting about this election cycle is that we don’t need to win every race in order to make an impact. Sending just a couple key reinforcements will greatly bolster the work of Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Rand Paul (R-KY).
“I wouldn't steer you wrong. Greg Brannon is one of the ones I said stands out. Let's get him some attention. He's definitely one. Matt Bevin… tremendous,” Doc said. “We don't need to put 400 people in there. We need a couple of reinforcements to people like Cruz and Lee, and you're there.”
“Those are the two really that we found to be just incredible candidates,” Pat agreed. “I mean, what an amazing thing it would be to add Greg Brannon and Matt Bevin to Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee. You're onto something there.:
Other notable candidates Doc has discovered in the last dew months is Sam Clovis, who is running for Senate in Iowa, and David Brat, who is challenging House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in Virginia.
“He's an economist at Randolph-Macon College. He has laid out an entire argument of how amnesty actually hurts other countries as well… He's brilliant,” Doc said. “I don't know if you know this, [but] if John Boehner leaves, Eric Cantor takes over the House. He's the heir apparent. John Boehner is weak. Eric Cantor is a snake.”
In the lead up to November Doc and Skip have vowed to spend a good deal of their time providing a platform for conservative minded candidates that don’t enjoy the support of the establishment GOP machine.
“Every day we're spotlighting another state to bring some candidates to your attention,” Doc concluded. “If you like these guys, do your work and vet them some more. And if you like them after that, tell people about them maybe send them a couple dollars… We'll do the heavy lifting for you. We'll funnel through it for you.”
