This morning Glenn decided to drop a quick humble brag to Stu who was getting excited to check out the newly released Lone Survivor movie trailer.
"What that just came out today? …I've had it for two days," Glenn said poking Stu.
Lone Survivor is, of course, the movie based off of Marcus Luttrell's book that recounts his story of being the only survivor of the four members of SEAL Team 10 of failed mission Operation Red Wings, June 28, 2005. Marcus is a friend of Glenn's and a consultant on the movie.
"He was a consultant on it and so I asked Marcus timidly a couple of weeks ago," Glenn explained, "he was in my office and he was looking at my bookshelf and he had his back turned to me and I said, "So Marcus, is it — is it right?" And he looked and he turned around and he just looked at me like he was going to kill me and he went, "Oh, it's right. It's absolutely accurate." And I said, "So it's what you envisioned?" And he said, "No. It's what I see in my nightmares all the time"."
"I don't know how possibly difficult that must be to actually watch," Stu commented.
Glenn, who will be attending a screening with Marcus and his wife, explained that Marcus's wife, Melanie, had an extremely hard time getting through the movie the first time she watched it.
"She said that she watched it the first time to make sure that it was, you know, accurate and she was watching it from the clinical sense," Glenn explained. "And then they watched it a second time and she said, "I broke down halfway through and I couldn't take it." She said, "The first time I was just watching it as the action and all the technical stuff." She said, "The second time it washed over me: This is my husband. This is what happened to my husband." And she said, "It's really powerful and overwhelming"."
Actor Mark Wahlberg will be playing the role of Marcus. The other men of SEAL Team 10 who lost their lives during Operation Red Wing were Mike Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matt Axelson. They will be played by Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, and Ben Foster.
The movie will hit theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on December 27, 2013 and will be released nationwide on January 1-, 2014.
