David Horowitz, author of the new book Progressive Racism, joined The Glenn Beck Program on Thursday to discuss the book and his firsthand knowledge of the civil rights movement and communism. His parents were literal communists, and he was part of the 1960s underground counter culture. In the early 1970s, he became aware of the evils of communism, socialism and progressivism and has been ringing the alarm bell ever since.
"[David] just woke up about 1973 and said, 'Holy cow, this is all a lie.' So he's been studying what socialism and communism do to American cities. He has facts at his fingertips that will blow your mind," Glenn said.
Glenn first asked about the idea of getting great conservative minds together to plan long-term for restoring the Republic.
"I want to talk to you about the Tides Foundation and how they built that. I really, truly believe the right must do that. We have to start getting together people of principles and chart a 100-year plan."

While on board with the idea, Horowitz had an interesting take on the notion.
"Unfortunately, getting conservatives together is like herding cats," Horowitz replied. "Conservatives are individualists. They don't believe they're changing the world. They're just trying to preserve . . . where we steward some of the good things. So it's very difficult."
Changing gears, the two delved into progressive policies and how destructive they are.
"We've been doing a series on the War On Poverty this week," Glenn said. "I just really wanted to hear some of the things that you've told me in the past and the things that you have in Progressive Racism that show the American people how devastating the loving progressive socialists really are to our cities and our people."
Horowitz, who has studied the effects of socialism and progressivism for decades, had plenty to say.
Well, the first thing is that progressives don't care at all about black people or poor people or minorities. But they use them as symbols to bash America. It's part of their agenda to overthrow our system and establish their socialist police state.
What people need to focus on in the first place is that every inner city in America, every killing field --- Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis, Washington, DC --- every one of them is 100 percent controlled by the Democratic Party and have been for 50 to 100 years. Everything that's wrong with the inner cities in America, everything that oppresses poor, white, black and Hispanic people mainly --- beginning with the schools that fail these kids, they fail to teach them year in and year out because they're run for the adults and the teacher unions, which are slush funds for the Democratic Party --- every one of those things is 100 percent controlled by the Democratic Party.
Horowitz noted Detroit as a specific example, which was the richest per capita city in America in 1961. That's the year they elected a Democrat mayor.
Over the years, the Democrats, the progressives do what they do --- their anti-business policies, anti-white policies. They had racists running it. They had a mayor who was a mayor of the Communist Party, Cohen Young, for 20 years. Detroit finally went bankrupt --- $14 billion in debt or something like that. Two-thirds of the population has fled. It looks like a bombed-out city, just utterly destroyed, because it was 100 percent control by the Democratic Party from the '60s on.
It's not old-style Democrats or classic liberals that are the problem. It's progressives.
"The problem and the real disease, in both parties, is the progressive liberal --- the progressive Democrat, the progressive Republican. Because those are the ones that really come in and they believe that massive government is the answer, way beyond what we used to think," Glenn said. "Massive, total control, authoritarian government is the goal of the progressives."
Horowitz agreed.
"How are they going to redeem the world? Through government, and they use the state. Of course, they have to control every aspect of your life since they're remaking everything. And they see us, those who resist their program --- they look on themselves as the army of the saints --- and they look on the rest of us as the party of Satan," Horowitz said. "They're totalitarians, is what they are."
David Horowitz's new book, Progressive Racism, is available in bookstores everywhere. The book dissects the tragic transformation of the civil rights movement from a cause opposing racism into a movement endorsing race preferences and privileges for select groups based on their skin color.
