Al Sharpton, an advisor to the President on race issues, descended on the protests in Baltimore and had an odd request. His most pressing message wasn’t to stop burning the city, it was to call for the DOJ to be put in charge of local police departments.
Breitbart.com reported that Sharpton said,"We need the Justice Department to step in and take over policing in this country. In the 20th century, they had to fight states' rights in — to get the right to vote. We're going to have to fight states' rights in terms of closing down police cases."
On radio, Glenn warned that the progressives in this country were discrediting and destroying the police force in cities across the country.
"Al Sharpton recently said in an interview that it's time for the DOJ, the Department of Justice, to take over all local policing," Glenn said, "They've discredited the police to the point to where they now believe we need a buffer zone between the police and the protesters. The police are supposed to be the buffer zone between us and the bad guys."
Glenn also played audio of President Obama calling for a "civilian national security force" in 2008. He said this while outlining a plan to expand the Peace Corps.
"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that is just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded," President Obama said at the time.
Glenn said, "Now, you can call it a conspiracy all you want, but that's what he said in 2008. And look at our police force today. Our police forces have military equipment! Is it a coincidence? Maybe it is. Is it a coincidence then that Al Sharpton is calling for this and meeting with the president? Maybe it is. But how many of these coincidences do you need before you start to say, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Even if it is a coincidence, we need to stop this. We need to stop this dead in its tracks. By the way, let me add in one more coincidence.
"What was the federal government pushing for just over a year ago? That would have made things even -- would have made us cry out even more for the top to come down in bad situations. A ban on guns.
"Think about being in Baltimore and living on those streets and you have no way to protect yourself and the people are out in the streets and they're coming up on your door. Think about if this spreads like Al Sharpton says it will, and I believe it will, spread to all of our cities. And people are just in the streets marauding around. Do you want a gun? And if you don't have a gun, if you don't have anything to protect yourself, what are you going to do? You're going to call the police? They're only making it worse. You're going to call out for the federal government to send in troops. You'll call out for the federal government to do it. I'm telling you, may it all be a coincidence. But it's a mighty strong coincidence.
"And even if it is a coincidence, it needs to be stopped. The left is stirring the pot."
