Over the weekend, Pat Gray was invited to speak at the Annual Utah Eagle Forum Convention, a gathering to prepare the people of Utah for the upcoming state legislative session. Pat spoke about parental education options and issues, focused on how the educational establishment is harming America's future. But before the day was over, he got a big surprise: the "Award of Merit".
Tim Irwin presented the award to Pat. He said, "We often ask ourselves what can little ole me do to make a difference. Several years ago Glenn Beck began talking about the original Purple Heart that George Washington gave to deserving citizens. The president wanted the “Badge of Merit” to go to ordinary citizens, who had done something extraordinary. He believed you did not have to be a military officer to do something honorable."
"This year the Award goes to an individual who has a little more notoriety especially in this group, but still does not get the recognition he deserves. That has been confirmed to me many times over the last year."
"This individual has had an incredible influence in Glenn Beck’s life and that influence has had a significant impact for good on so many of us right here in this audience as well as the United States. Glenn Beck has told us all many times that he has not been the epitome of virtue all his life."
"But the influence of this man on Glenn, even when Glenn was at his worst and at the bottom of his career, this man stuck with him and helped influence a dramatic turnaround."
Glenn then joined the ceremony via a pre-recorded message, praising Pat for the positive influence he had on his life. If it weren't for Pat helping him when he needed it most, Glenn never would have become the man he is today and influenced as many people as he did.
During his presentation, Irwin drew connections between Pat helping Glenn in his darkest time to the man who helped Paul Revere on his historic ride. Irwin pointed out that without Pat, Glenn wouldn't have been there to lead so many people back to the Constitution and founding principles.
"Thank you for what you do. Thank you for sticking with Glenn through thick and thin. Your influence has made a difference in this great country," Tim said.
Tim Ballard of Operation Underground Railroad was in attendance, as were Senator Mike Lee and Representatives Chris Stewart and Jason Chaffetz.
