The Senate has voted 52-48 to invoke the so-called ‘nuclear option’. The decision strikes down a long-standing filibuster rule that applies to most presidential nominations. As the Washington Post reported, a passage alters nearly 225 years of precedent. The change allows for the confirmation of executive branch nominees and most federal judiciary selections with a simple majority.

“What you are seeing happening in Washington, D.C. today is the undermining of our republic. It is the weakening of our republic. It was wrong when the Republicans tried to do it, it is wrong today,” Glenn said on radio this morning. “Harry Reid has just proposed that they stop the filibuster. Now you need 60 votes to stop a filibuster. He says that's too high of a bar. He have wants it to be 50 votes. Then what good is a filibuster?”
Ironically, the very people who were against the nuclear option when the Republicans controlled the Senate are now that one’s fighting for its passage.
“Where are the people of principle? Where are the people who said, ‘This is wrong’ when their party tied to do it. Where are those people,” Glenn asked. “Those are the people I want to hear from because, again, a guy who's leading the bandwagon, the guy that's totally for it is the President of the United States.”
In 2005, then-Senator Barack Obama had this to say about the filibuster:
I am also aware the Founding Fathers established the filibuster as a means of protecting the minority from the tyranny of the majority, and that protection, with some changes, has been in place for over 200 years.
It looks like times have changed.
“Is there anybody that actually believes in something,” Glenn asked somberly. “Answer: Yes – you.”
