Joe Biden is at it again. After staying out of the spotlight for a couple of weeks, Biden is back and better than ever with some truly gaffe-tastic comments.
“Oh, Joe Biden. Joe Biden, Joe Biden, Joe Biden,” Glenn said to open the radio program this morning. “Where do we even begin with Joe Biden? I don't think I've ever seen anybody so gaffe tastic as Joe Biden.”
The hypocrisy runs deep when it comes to Biden and his penchant for saying the most ridiculous things because you know a conservative would never receive the same sympathy from the media and others in government. Regardless, Biden’s most recent remarks are once again offensive, and it is once again being brushed off as ‘Joe being Joe.’
Glenn played the audio of the most recent gaffe on radio this morning:
BIDEN: Look, because now we've got a real picture, point out we've got a real clear picture of what they (inaudible). They’ve said it! Every Republican’s voted for it! Look at what they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing. Romney wants to let the... He said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules – unchain – Wall Street. They're going to put y'all back in chains. He said he's going to do nothing about stopping the practice of outsourcing.
“Stop, stop, stop, stop,” Glenn said in response to Biden’s comments. “Okay. Hang on just a second. Here is – this is the most racist, racist white guy stuff I've ever heard.”
While Pat and Stu were quick to remind Glenn that Biden’s remarks were by no means the most racist thing he has ever heard, there is no denying the racial undertones (and the blatant misrepresentation of the facts) in Biden’s message and delivery.
“Joe Biden is trying to become black, I think,” Glenn said. “Southern black, I'm not sure what he's doing. But he says they're going to put you back in chains. And then he becomes like, I don't know, a character, a Jackie Gleason character from Smokey and the Bandit.”
“Just the word ‘y'all’ would get Romney four days of ridicule by the mainstream media,” Pat added. “And if a Republican had done this – that would be a huge focus. And then talking about the chains thing, putting you back in chains when there's a group of black people in the room is, that's unbelievable. It's inconceivable.”
Mitt Romney, to his credit, came out swinging yesterday and, without referencing Biden’s comments directly, took a strong stand on the issue:
ROMNEY: So Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago and let us get about rebuilding and reuniting America.
Glenn praised Romeny’s discipline, and his ability to consistently take the high road despite some of the vicious attacks he has faced. Compare that to Biden’s gaffes, and you start to see two very distinct narratives that will shape the November election.
“Over and over again these guys destroy themselves,” Glenn concluded. “Give them enough rope, they just hang themselves. All of them are hanging themselves. And someday it will come to – and I think it's going to be in November. These guys are just destroying themselves because what they're saying is untrue. It's an out and out lie. And darkness just doesn't win in the end.”
UPDATE: The hits just keep coming...
